Rose McPhee is a painter who works in an abstract, non-representational style. She works with acrylic paint, paint markers, and oil sticks. Rose draws inspiration from abstract expressionism, nature, and Asian calligraphic arts. She describes her creative process as intuitive: as color and form develop on the canvas, intuitive decision‑making carries the work to completion.

Rose has formal art training and marries traditional aspects of design with her intuitive approach. Conceptually, her work is about movement and stasis, the tension between energy and stillness. It addresses motion paired with quiet contemplation.

She is enamored of bright, opposing colors; her work aims to depict a sense of joy, reverence, and delight in the human and natural world.

Rose lives and works in the mountains of Colorado. She is a fourth‑generation Colorado native. Born and raised in Denver, Rose grew up in an art-friendly home. Her mother was a writer and her father a photographer. Introduced to creative work at a young age through crafts and sewing, she was very involved in art in high school and went on to major in fine art in college.

Rose taught high school and adult visual art for 20 years. She has participated in art shows and festivals around Colorado and today works as an art therapist at an addiction treatment center, while remaining an avid painter. Prior to painting, Rose’s creative focus was clay sculpture.
